Kindness to Neighbours

The Prophet (pbuh): "Gabriel has repeatedly recommended me to be good to my neighbor to the extent that I thought that he would include him (my neighbor) among my heirs"

The Prophet (pbuh) has stated: "Gabriel has repeatedly recommended me to be good to my neighbor to the extent that I thought that he would include him (my neighbour) among my heirs." ( Hadith, Ahmad and At-Tirmidhi)

This Hadith explains that Angel Gabriel brought commandments from Allah(God), concerning the rights of the neighbors so frequently that the Prophet (pbuh) thought that the neighbours would also be made an heir ( like children ) inheriting some property.

A muslim should love for his neighbour what he loves for himself .A muslim should keep his neighbour"s secrets and personal affairs and not to disclose them to others. A muslim should help his neighbour financially in times of need. A muslim should respect and honour his neighbour"s family .

The Prophet (pbuh) has stated: "Whenever you prepare a broth, put plenty of water in it, and and give some of it to your neighbours." ( Hadith, Muslim)

This hadith explains that Islam does not like a Muslim to ignore his hungry neighbour Even if a person is not wealthy, he should at least add some water in the soup he cooks and send a portion of it to his hungry neighbour. Muslims should never be ignorant of neighbours and they should be charitable to their neighbours as much as they can.

The Prophet(pbuh) said, "O Muslim women! No one of you should consider insignificant (a gift) to give to her neighbour even if it is (a gift of) the trotters of a sheep." ( Hadith, Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

This hadith explains that neighbours should present gifts to each other. Whether someone is rich or poor one can give a present according to his means. Every humble gift presented with sincerity is worth of giving to a neighbour.

( pbuh = peace be upon him )
