Women and Islam

"And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect." (Quran: 30/21).

With Islam women got the position and value that they deserved and reached welfare and bliss, they had always longed for throughout history. Islamic law has abolished the practices of excess and negligence and set up a perfect balance and harmony between two genders.

Allah(God) says: "And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect. " (Quran : 30/21).

Although it is fundamental that girls be brought up to be delicate like flowers and mild and affectionate educators of children, due attention must be given to making them inflexible defenders of truth. Otherwise, we shall have transformed them into poor, impotent beings for the sake of delicacy and mildness. We must not forget that female lions are still lions.

Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) indicated that women are fragile like glass and men should treat them with delicacy and tenderness. Once A man came to the Prophet (pbuh) and said,
-O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship?
The Prophet (pbuh) said:
-Your mother.
The man said,
-Then who?
The Prophet (pbuh) said:
-Then your mother.
The man further asked:
-Then who?
The Prophet (pbuh) said:
-Then your mother.
The man asked again:
-Then who?
The Prophet (pbuh) said:
-Then your father. ( Hadith, Bukhari, Muslim).

The Prophet (pbuh) said, "People are equal like the teeth of the comb." This hadith shows that man and women, husband and wife are equal in islam. Let us now learn about some sociological facts about women rights in islam.

Marrying four women: A man cannot marry another woman without taking absolute permission and approval of his first wife. If the first wife does not approve another wife, a muslim may never be married to a second woman.

Rights of Daughters: It is forbiden in islam to force daughters to marry someone they don't want to marry.

Education of Women: The Prophet (pbuh) encouraged women on learning, reading and writing therefore women had a good share of education . Al-Bukhari records that women asked the Prophet (pbuh) to assign a day on which he might meet and teach them and the Prophet(pbuh) did.

As related by Enes b. Malik: A sahabi named Anjeshe was leading the camels that were carrying the Prophet's wives on the way back from the last pilgrimage. He was making the camels run with the rhythmic songs he sang with his beautiful voice. The Prophet told him:
-"O Anjeshe, ride slowly, do not break the crystals" (Darimi, Istizan, 65).

Here the Prophet(pbuh) used a very delicate and gentle term for women. He stressed that his wives are pure and precious like a crystal and at the same time they are very delicate. They can be easily broken.

(pbuh) = peace be upon him

Lateef said: 'Hi, I don't know if you are a Muslim but all these stuff you put out here concerning marriage are not clear. You sound like a western feminist. Stop brainwashing women. There's a misunderstanding about seek the first wife permission. You have twisted some stuff and that's why it's not advisable to get Islam from internet. The daughter marrying part was not well explained either. Please don't sugar coat our religion. Guess what? I came from Christianity background and I know good well real Islamic explanation about matter. Don't put our women in your destructive way. Mrs. Feminist! Bullshit! You think we are stupid. I'm an American and y'all feminist are contributing to the instability in our homes. Muslim daughters must not be forced to marry whom they are not in love with but the men they are in love with must be Muslims i.e. believer in Allah and His Prophet, peace be upon Him. This Hadith, "People are equal like the teeth of the comb." is talking about racism not gender equality. Gender equality in Islam talk about the judgment day, paradise and hell. There's gender role in Islam. Women take care of the homes and men are responsible for the financial needs and other aspect. I won't let your type come to the internet and quote out of context. May Allah reveal and destroy anyone who hide to create confusion among Muslims. I don't ask question on internet or seek knowledge of Islam on it because of people like you. If you are a feminist and lie on Allah and His Messenger, peace be upon Him, May Allah take away your dirty knowledge. But if you are a real Muslim who doesn't understand the religion yet, May Allah increase your knowledge. Please don't sugarcoat Islamic religion because it's already a complete religion. I may sound too ash but it's my personality. Ever since I chose Islam as a religion, I don't want people to misinterpret it to others. If your intention is good BUT YOU MAKE MISTAKES ON THESE ISSUES, MAY ALLAH FORGIVE YOU OTHERWISE IT'S GONNA BE WHAT I SAID EARLIER. Can you see that women are more than men? No matter how many women a man married there will always be more women. You want the remaining women after every man married one woman to become a public property? That's western ideology not Islamic one. You sound more like a feminist which is not allow in Islam. I'm not a scholar but I ask question from authentic scholars with evidences or references. peace!!!'
