Allah(God) says; "O you who believe! when you prepare for prayer, wash your faces, and your hands (and arms) to the elbows; Rub your heads (with water); and (wash) your feet to the ankles." ( Quran: 5/6 )
Two Sunnahs in Ablution are rinsing the mouth and sniffing the nose. Rinsing the mouth protects the mouth by decreasing the risks of inflammations. It also helps protect the teeth by decreasing the remaining food on teeth.
Washing the face and the two hands up to the elbows decreases dust and harmful germs on the skin, and therefore decreases the risk of inflammations and colonization of harmful germs. Washing also dampens the surface of the skin and keeps the skin fresh.
It has been scientificly proved that blood circulation in the feet is weaker than it is in other organs, because of the distance between the feet and the heart. Washing the feet helps increase the blood circulation in feet and therefore the total blood circulation increases together with the vitality and activity of the total body.
Ablution is not just washing external organs before prayers but also preparing the muslim psychologically and spiritually before the divine act of prayer.
