The atmosphere has many protective purposes for us. There are many meteors in the outer space. Sometimes meteors enter the gravitational field of the earth and they bombard our planet. Thankfully the meteors mostly burn up due to the air friction in the atmosphere. However the atmosphere of the Moon and the Mars is not thick enough to prevent the meteors from penetrating to their surface . Therefore there are many craters on their surface which can be easily explored by today's technology. Thankfully our atmosphere protects us from the meteors just like a canopy(roof).

The protective ozone layer, which is found in the stratosphere layer of the atmosphere, prevents some of the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays from penetrating to the surface of the earth.

Also the atmosphere protects us from the burning heat and freezing coldness ( - 270 degrees celcius ) of the oute space. If the there was no atmosphere, creatures would not be able to survive because of the heat of the daytime and the coldness of the night.

These facts has been stated in the Quran as: "And We have made the heavens as a canopy well guarded: yet do they turn away from the Signs which these things (point to)!". ( Quran : 21/32 ) . Our atmosphere protects us from many dangers like a canopy.

This is another fact that the Quran revealed 1400 years ago.
