Kindness to Animals

"Fear Allah(God) in your treatment of animals." ( Hadith, Abu Dawood )

On the way to a battle, the Prophet (pbuh) army marched towards Mecca to conquer it, they passed a female dog with puppies. The Prophet (pbuh) not only gave orders that the mother dog and puppies should not be hurt or disturbed, but posted a man to see that this was done.

The Prophet (pbuh) forbade cutting tails and manes of horses. It was forbidden to kick horses with feet unnecessarily while riding them. The killing of animals for sporting purposes like hunting with no benefit was forbidden. The Prophet (pbuh) said: " If someone kills a sparrow for sport, the sparrow will cry out on the Day of Judgement, 'O Allah(God)! That person killed me in vain, he did not kill me for any useful purpose.' " ( Hadith, Nisai )

It is forbidden to stay long on the back of an animal (Horse, Camel etc ) when it wasn't traveling. The Prophet (pbuh) remarked on this cruelty as " Do not turn your animals into chair. " ( Hadith, Ahmed and Haakim)

During a journey, somebody picked up some birds eggs. The bird's painful note attracted the attention of the Prophet (pbuh) and the prophet asked the man to replace the eggs ( Bukhari ).

The Prophet (pbuh) mentioned that imprisoning birds in cages without any special purpose is considered cruelty. The Prophet (pbuh) mentioned that animals used as carriers ( like camels, horses ..) are not allowed to be over-loaded. Whenever the Prophet (pbuh) saw any animal over-loaded or ill-fed he would approached the owner and said, " Fear Allah(God) in your treatment of animals. " ( Hadith, Abu Dawood)
