Electricity and The Bulb

"Allah(God) is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The metaphor of His Light is that of a niche in which is a lamp, the lamp inside a glass, the glass like a brilliant star, lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither of the east nor of the west, its oil all but giving off light even if no fire touches it." (Quran: 24/35)

The metaphor of His Light is that of a niche in which is a lamp, the lamp inside a glass, the glass like a brilliant star, lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither of the east nor of the west, its oil all but giving off light even if no fire touches it. Light upon Light. Allah guides to His Light whoever He wills and Allah makes metaphors for mankind and Allah has knowledge of all things." (Quran: 24:35)

The above verse is from surat "Nur" , which means "light" in arabic. As has been stated, "the lamp inside a glass, the glass like a brilliant star" bears a strong resemblance to a bulb. The statement "no fire touches it" indicates that the source of this light is not an oil lamp or a gas lamp where fire with oxygen takes place.

There is a tungsten wire inside the bulb. The vibration of the atoms of this wire rises the temperature up to 2000 centigrades and this temperature provides light. There is no oxygen, and therefore "no fire" inside the bulb.

Let us examine how stars emit light. Inside the stars hydrogen turns into helium by means of nuclear fusion. This process releases huge amount of energy which is radiated from the surface of the star as heat and light. This process does not use oxygen, so stars also emit light without fire. Therefore the phrase "like a brilliant star" indicates the resemblance of the bulb and the stars in terms of emitting light without fire. ( God knows the best )
