Labour Justice

The Prophet (pbuh) said: "Give to the worker his wages before his sweat dries." (Hadith,Ibn Majah)

Workers should not be given work beyond their capacity. They should have humane and secure environments. They should also have time for themselves and their families. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, "Your brothers are your responsibility. Allah(God) has made them under your hands. So whosoever has a brother under his hand, let him give him food as he eats and dress as he dresses. Do not give them work that will overburden them and if you give them such task then provide them assistance." ( Hadith, Al-Bukhari )

All agreements must be clear; employees must know their duties and responsibilities and they must be told their rights. The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Muslims must abide by their agreements, unless there is an agreement that makes halal(permited) what is haram(forbiden) or makes haram what is halal." ( Hadith, At-Tirmidhi)

Islam urges the proper treatment and respect of workers. An employer must properly compensate worker"s wages. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "Give to the worker his wages before his sweat dries." ( Hadith, Ibn Majah)

Justice and fair dealings are basic values of Islam and they must be always emphasized. No peace and harmony in the society can exist without justice. Honesty must be secured in all business relationships, including how an employer pays an employee.

( pbuh = peace be upon him )
