"And Allah(God) taught the Bee to build its cells in hills, on trees, and in (men's) habitations" (Quran: 16/68)
"And Allah(God) taught the Bee to build its cells in hills, on trees, and in (men's) habitations; Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for men: verily in this is a Sign for those who give thought." (Quran: 16/68-69)
Honeybees build hexagonal cells of exactly the same size. The angles between the edges of the hexagons are always the same. While building a comb bees start from different points but there is no error where the cells join each other. Although bees seem to be independently building cells they work in a great harmony and build up a honeycomb which is geometrically perfect.
Although the cells are identical their purposes are different. Some cells are used for storing honey while others are used for pollens or eggs. All cells look identical, but bees never put honey, pollen or eggs in wrong cells. The fact that honey and eggs are kept separate also serves for our benefits. Otherwise it would be much difficult to separate honey and eggs and we would also harm the larvae while taking honey from the comb.
If the cells were not hexagonal but round or pentagonal , spaces would be left between the cells which would cause bees to use more materials and build up less storing place. Hexagonal cells not only enable the bees to use least amount of wax in building cells, but also enables the maximum cell volume. So we conclude that hexagons are geometrically the best shape to use in terms of material and space utilization.
All these facts prove that Allah(God) inspires in bees the knowledge to build the perfect combs.
